What is retained
With history enabled, Joomla saves supported record data during editing. Settings control the number of retained versions, and a version note can explain a change. Comparison highlights differences between selected states.
Difference from backups
A record’s versions are not a complete backup of Joomla files, extensions and database. An image referenced by a path can change independently of the text. After restoration, check saved values, publication state and public output.
Use Joomla versions for editorial changes and complete backups for recovering the entire installation.
