Categories in Joomla! are used to structure different entities of different content components (CCK): Joomla! articles, contacts, banners, links, modules and third-party Joomla! components.
Any site on Joomla! (or another CMS) has a certain internal logical structure, which is built by using nesting of articles in categories and subcategories.
In Joomla there is a category called Uncategorised - this is the category assigned by default to all articles. The Uncategorised category has no description and should be used as needed for articles that do not fall into a specific category.
Before creating categories, it is recommended to pre-plan the content hierarchy. For example:
- cars — category
- passenger cars — subcategory
- Audi — subcategory
- Audi 100 — article
- Audi A4 — article
- BMW — subcategory
- Audi — subcategory
- trucks — subcategory
- IVECO — subcategory
- passenger cars — subcategory
- motorcycles — category
Categories and subcategories of the Joomla content component are created and edited through the Category Manager in the admin panel.
