An XML file containing information about the Joomla extension and its configuration parameters. The manifest file is located in the root of the extension's ZIP archive and is required for its installation.
Typically the manifest file is named [extension name].xml, for example:
- mod_jt_login.xml,
- pkg_redj.xml.
Sometimes Joomla site administrators see the following messages when trying to install an extension:
JInstaller: :Install: Unable to find XML file to install package.
Unable to find manifest file.
Most often this happens when the wrong archive is specified for installation. For example, you can download a ZIP archive, which must first be unpacked and the archives enclosed in it must be installed.
Also, the error «Unable to find the manifest file.» may occur when trying to install extensions via JED in the admin panel. In this case, you should go to the Joomla extension catalog site, find the extension in question, download and install it manually.
