Language file

INI file containing language constants in key = value format used by Joomla to display static text.

Usually, language file names start with the prefix of the desired language and contain the system name of the extension, for example:

• en-GB.tpl_shaper_helixultimate.ini
• ru-RU.com_sppagebuilder.ini

Language files are usually stored in the following folders from the root of the site:

• /language/[language prefix]/
  This folder typically stores static text displayed on front pages, and may also contain combined localizations for the frontend and backend.
• /administrator/languages/[language prefix]/
  This folder usually stores static text displayed in the admin panel.

Sometimes language files for certain extensions are located in the extension's folders, rather than the folders mentioned above.

For example, the folder /language/ru-RU/ contains files with Russian localizations, and the folder /language/en-GB/ contains English ones.
